Recently, I spoke with two young women who were worried about the recession. One of them said, “I hope the company I work for stays open for business.” The other said, “I hope I don’t have to take a cut in pay.”

These women believe that the only way to deal with the recession is by hoping that someone else’s action won’t adversely affect them.

This is the common consciousness of some people. It is the common mindset of dependence on someone or something else.

Unlike that limited mindset is my dear friend named Valorie Parker, author of From the Soul of a Woman. Valorie had overcome the challenge of an abusive eighteen year marriage. After becoming tired of the physical and mental abuse, she had taken her three small children and left her husband. She was penniless and unskilled. For sometime she and her children lived in the garage of a friend. For next few years Valorie worked hard to improve herself and her talents. Today, Valorie Parker is a successful speaker, author and entrepreneur.

She put it all into perspective one evening when she said, “I’ve decided I am not going to participate in the recession.” She’s like most of us and has too many bills to pay and too many things she wants to do with her life. So she is just simply saying, “No.”

Are you going to say “No” and do something different with your life in order to move you through the recession instead of waiting for someone to bail you out?

There’s greatness in you!

If you wait around for someone else to come to your rescue, you’ll be waiting a long time! Be part of the small percentage of people who will work to save their own lives.

There are three types of people:  those who watch things happen; those who wonder what happened; and those who make things happen. You need to be one of those who make things happen as you move your life to the next level. Our economic situation is never going back to what we thought was “normal.” Therefore, we have to keep moving forward. We have to be open to change in order to make it through these tough times, and say “No” to participating in so-called bad economic times.
